We endeavour to keep our IT hardware and software up to date with the latest forms of technology to aid in design and project delivery. We utilise the latest versions of Autodesk AutoCAD and REVIT as well as Microsoft Office applications including Project to assist us when managing projects.
Our key IT infrastructure is hosted on the cloud to allow us flexibility in using mobile technology to access vital information when out of the office in meetings or on site. We find it incredibly useful to have thousands of drawings, documents and models on a mobile device wherever we are.
We have integrated Building Information Modelling (BIM) into our practice allowing us to collaborate with other consultants to create a virtual building in its own environment with rich format data. This process of creating a building within its own environment allows the design process to identify circumstances that may not have become apparent with two dimensional (2D) drawing techniques, creating clarity and a reduction in errors.
‘BIM processes revolve around virtual models that make it possible to share information throughout the entire building industry. These virtual models are embedded with data which, when shared among design team members, greatly reduces errors and improves facilities. BIM offers owners the ability to become more efficient and effective by linking their business processes with their facilities.’ Jernigan (2009, p.24-25)
